HEAT REWIND - FIRST ROAD-TRIP OF THE YEAR

The Abbotsford Heat have opened the season with 7 of the 8 possible points on home ice, and the club leaves this week for their first road-trip of the season. The ‘three-in-three’ set sees the Heat start against Lake Erie Monsters on Friday and Saturday night in Cleveland, Ohio before finishing the trip Sunday evening in Hamilton, Ontario. Last season, the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland is where the Heat played their first games against the Monsters on October 7th & 8th 2011. Winning both with a one goal margin. Let’s rewind and look at the results from each of the 4 games played against the Lake Erie Monsters last year.

Head-to-Head Record

Let’s take a look at how the two teams faired against each other in 2011-12 season:

Abbotsford 4-0-0-0
Lake Erie 0-4-0-0

Abbotsford swept the season series against Lake Erie winning twice at home and twice on the road.

Cleveland Connections

No one on the Heat knows the Monsters like current leading scorer Ben Walter, as he spent the entire 2010-11 campaign with Lake Erie. Walter led the Monsters team in scoring with 23 goals, 47 assists and 70 points in his lone season with the organization and finished ninth in AHL scoring. We talked with the veteran forward about playing his old team and the quick start the Heat have had:

Heat forward Dustin Sylvester got his first taste of pro hockey with the Lake Erie Monsters in the Spring of 2010 signing an ATO after his 20-year-old season of junior hockey with the Kootenay Ice (WHL) had finished. We checked in with the sophomore forward to see how he feels about returning to the city that his pro career started:

Next Home Stand

After playing three games on the road in three nights, the Heat return home to face the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) on November 1st and 2nd. The Friday game marks another Big Ticket game as local heroes from the Fraser Valley will be honoured at the game. It is also Loonie Toonie Dog ‘N Brew Night which means hot dog is a dollar and draft beer is two. Cheer the boys to victory against the team that ended the season for your Heat last year in Game 5 of the second round of Calder Cup Playoffs.
